No other locomotive is more universally famous and recognized than the mighty Pennsylvania Railroad's GG-1 electric. These sleek engines began working electrified mainlines in 1934 and served as passenger and freight motive power on the Pennsy and its heirs for nearly 50 years. A total of 139 units were eventually constructed, forming a fleet that ran from New York to Washington, D.C. and west to Harrisburg, PA. Their service record is legendary. |
